The text is in Japanese, but there are lots of pictures that more than make up for the lack of English text. Both the inline DB601 engined and the radial engined D4Ys are covered, and the book also includes a great set of drawings. Overall, this is a great photo reference on one of the more interesting Japanese Navy dive bombers. Chris Banyai-Riepl | | Grumman F11F Tiger Corwin "Corky" Meyer and Steve Ginter Grub Street, The Basement, 10 Chivalry road, London SW11 1HT, 1998 145pp ISBN: 0-942612-40-X Number forty in the wonderful Naval Fighter series, this book on the Grumman F11F is an incredible piece of writing. The author was there and flew these planes, giving a much different point of view than if it was written by someone who had never seen a Tiger fly. Coverage of the F11F program is very thorough, and includes a section on the F11F that shot itself down, written by the pilot who flew it (did he get to paint a kill marking on his plane?) The squadron histories are interesting, and give lots of marking possibilities for the upcoming Tamiya 1/48 F11F-1. If you like Navy fighters of the fifties and sixties, this is a book to add to your library. Will Riepl (OK, Tamiya hasn't announced an F11F-1 yet, but they have to be thinking of it, right?) | | |
