Sea Hurricane Mk IIC of No. 835 Sqn., 1944.
After reading about them in Robert Jackson's book on the Hawker Hurricane, then finding a picture of the one depicted above, I had a strong urge to build a Sea Hurricane IIC. Since I had the Hasegawa kit of the IID, The basics were there for this simple conversion. My first step was to figure out the differences, which were basically the hook and catapult attachment points, of which the hook would be the most visible. The hook was a simple device, consisting of a V-shaped section with the hook at the apex. I constructed the hook out of styrene rod and a small chunk of 040" plastic stock. My next area of construction was the cockpit. Here is where things came to a screeching halt. The interior of the Hasegawa kit is almost non-existant. Since the kit comes with a somewhat thick one-piece canopy, there really isn't any need to do too much inside, but since I wanted to display it with the canopy open, something needs to be done. So, I am currently looking into aftermarket sets for this plane. I picked up the Squadron canopy for the Hurricane, and it looks like that will work out nicely. I've heard of an Eduard set for the Hurricane, and will probably pick that up later this month, unless anyone else has something better to offer.

Meanwhile, I will finish up the wings and build the hook attachment points onto the fuselage sides. Overall, aside from the cockpit, I am very pleased with the look of this kit. Some have said that the fabric work is a little heavy, but with some sanding down, it doesn't look all that bad. Of course, I might be changing that tune once I get that white paint on there. Stay tuned to see how this one progresses.
