When I was told I was to receive this book for review, I was taken aback
a little. I was also a little excited. X-Planes aren't usually my bag,
but I have a little bit of an "in" with NASA and was curious.
My late father retired from NASA after working there 33 years starting
in 1957. I vaguely remember some stuff from him, especially in that he
played some role in Apollo (he was a mathematican for NASA). When he retired
he was also getting rid of some of his older stuff he kept while with
the Association, and that included a booklet on the X-15 that NASA put
out. While I still own that booklet I currently don't have it in my possesion
but recall there being a lot on the mathematics of the X-15 program (no
suprise there).
There is a lot about the X-15 program in this latest book. Actually,
it probably carries everything about the X-15 program. Now, it's not a
new book, instead it's a paperback version of the publication when it
was initally released in 2003. I don't know if there are any addendums
or not as I'm only into Chapter 2 of the book. The hardbound went for
US$39.95 at the time of publication and this one is listed at US$26.95
on Specialty Press' site.
As Chris mentioned in his review of the hardback version of this publication,
if there's anything you want to know about the X-15 program, then this
book is for you - and now at a much less expensive rate.
Our thanks to Specialty Press
for the review sample. |
