The Kit

Although this kit has been around for a while I noticed that there had not been a first look article on IM. Having recently acquired this set I decided that the information should be available to IM readers.

The figure set consists of 49 injection molded parts which include two pilot figures, four mechanics/ground personnel, one two wheeled cart, grenades, and a Spandau machine gun. The parts are cleanly molded although the inevitable mold seem along all body parts are present. Detail is good, although no insignia, medals etc. is included. It would have been a nice addition to include these as decals, perfect in this scale. Sink holes in some strategic places are evident and will take care in filling and sanding in order not to lose the detail present. As expected some details are a little soft, ie. the facial features, uniform buttons, belts, and buckles. This is due to the injection process and I do not believe could be improved upon by anything but Resin casting. The poses are good but could be improved upon by a little judicious cutting and repositioning of the arms, legs, etc. The real good news is that being hard injection molded styrene modifications are an easy process. The molding of separate arms, heads, and legs on some of the figures will facilitate cross building/multi pose, and make for many options as to realizing a variety of poses .I feel that @ $9.95 for six figures and equipment this set represents a great value. Resin and or white metal figures cost more in the area of $3.00 to $4.00 each!

Construction of the out of the box figures is straight forward. Drawings are provided to build all six figures along with quotes for colors. Although figures are presented in a sequence one can choose to build them in any order. Instructions are clear and should present no problems. A colored page is provided in the instructions but curiously only four of the figures are profiled?

Conclusion

These figures represent a vast improvement over what Aurora provided, and is a welcome addition to the WW1 modeling market. Serious diorama builders or someone just looking for a figure to add that size relationship to their model will welcome these figures.

Thanks to Matt Bittner for allowing me to review this set. Figures purchased from Roll Models.
