Golden Dragon Productions 1/72nd EA-6B Prowler Cockpit Set

By

Hasegawa has put out an impressive line of 1/72 aircraft, especially in recent years, with one main failing, cockpit detail. Many homegrown companies have risen to fill this economic niche and Golden Dragon productions is one of those forging into territories untouched by the mainstream production houses. One of the subjects not covered by the mainstream (Aires, True Details, et al) is the EA-6B Prowler.

Hasegawa produces a nice kit of the Prowler and even has an option for the canopy to be in the raised position, only to show off a plain, nearly featureless cockpit. Golden Dragon now fills this space with a comprehensive and realistic looking front office (read busy!). Molded in 19 grey pieces it comes with a full cockpit tub, four ejection seats, sidewall detail and instrument panels for both front and back. It lacks the control stick but I am sure the kit stick will suffice. The resin is clean, no pin holes and the detail is finely rendered. There was a little flash on a few parts but nothing a sharp knife won't fix. Most of the detail will be missed until you put paint to resin, then it's a dry-brusher's dream.

The instructions are a simple diagram with no color call-outs, something I miss (spoiled by True Details), but standard for small operations like Golden Dragon.

For those wanting to detail their EA-6B, this is a "must have" accessory, and for now, only available through Great Models though this may change in the future. Now all I am waiting for is their A-6 cockpit set and the promised wheel well detail sets.
