Flying Colors 1/200 Alitalia 777

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

Overview

The Boeing 777 has had a soft spot in my heart ever since I moved next to Paine Field where they are built. From a nice grassy knoll overlooking the runway, I was able to watch them taxi by, take off, and land. It's not until you're 100 feet away from those giant engines that their size really becomes apparent. When the first Alitalia 777 took to the skies for the first time, I was there with my camera. The simple livery suited the 777 well, and I figured it would not be long before I would see a decal sheet of it.

The Decals

Flying Colors decals are some of the best in the market today, and this sheet is no different than the rest. Careful research and excellent printing are the name of the game here, and the Alitalia sheet is an excellent example. Having taken twenty or thirty photos of the Alitalia 777s while at Paine Field, I had plenty of reference to compare the decal sheet to, and I can honestly say that I found no discrepancies whatsoever.

The decal sheet includes all of the standard livery markings, with the fuselage cheatline split into two pieces. Registrations are included for I-DISA 'Taormina', the first Alitalia 777, as well as I-DISB 'Porto Rotondo', I-DISE 'Portofino', I-DISO 'Positano', and I-DISU 'Madonna Di Campiglio'. These are the first five delivered 777s of the nine ordered by Alitalia (although the other day I saw another new one sitting inside the Paine Field hangar). In addition to the livery decals, the sheet also includes a full set of stenciling.

If you're itching to put some green on your 1/200 Hasegawa 777, this is a great decal sheet. It is also available in 1/144 for the Minicraft kit.

My thanks to Flying Colors for the review sample. Be sure to visit their website for other great decal sheets.
