Warship Perspectives:
Flush Deck Destroyers in WWII

by Glenn R Arnold

Reviewed by Bob Pearson

273 flush deck, "four pipe" destroyers were commissioned into the US Navy between 1917 and 1920. They later served in the Royal Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Polish Navy, Soviet Navy and even the Japanese navy when one was captured. Modified into ocean escorts, minelayers and minesweepers, transports, seaplane tenders and numerous other roles.

Glenn Arnold has combined a short history of these ubiquitous ships with a great collection of photographs showing it in all its guises as well as providing drawings showing camouflage worn and various GA drawings. There is also a set of fold out plans for HMS Montgomery.

Anyone building a model of a four piper is recommended to acquire this volume ... Highly recommended.

My thanks to Keith Butterley of Warshipbooks.com for the review sample.
