Lift Here Decals 1/48 Yugoslav Bf 109Gs

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

When it comes to aftermarket decals, the most numerous choices out there are undoubtedly those for the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Even so, though, there are plenty of subjects that have never been done, and the Yugoslav Bf 109s are high on that list. This decal sheet rectifies that lapse with four very interesting options.

The first one on the sheet is a Bf 109G-2a, No. 9663/63, a former Bulgarian aircraft that is now a museum exhibit. The plane is finished in medium gray over light blue (not RLM colors) and features a small white 63 on the rear fuselage in addition to the Yugoslav roundels. The serial is on the tail in black.

Number two on the sheet is a Bf 109G-6 that was captured from the Germans in 1945. This plane is finished in standard RLM colors consisting of RLM75 over RLM76. A white 3 is on the rear fuselage and the plane has a red spinner. The roundels are in six positions, unlike the other aircraft on this sheet which have no upper wing roundels.

The third aircraft is a colorful Bf 109G-10, No. 9644/44, again a former Bulgarian aircraft. This plane also was painted with medium gray over light blue, with the rudder entirely in light blue. For a bit of variation, though, the upper surfaces were painted in a symmetrical pattern of dark brown over the medium gray. Like the G-2a, this plane also has white numbers on the rear fuselage (44) and the serial on the tail in black.

The final option on this sheet will require a bit of modification, as it is a two-seater. Another former Bulgarian aircraft, this apparently used an Erla hood on the rear cockpit section. It is finished in medium gray over light blue and is coded white 45.

The decals are very nice, with excellent color density and perfect registration. They should give no problems in putting them on your latest Bf 109 masterpiece, and the finished model will definitely have a different look than your usual Luftwaffe Bf 109s.

My thanks to Lift Here for the review sample.
