A2Z True Cast | | While I've done lots of casting in my modeling work, one of the greater pains is using RTV rubber. While RTV is ideal for creating larger molds, it isn't too fun to use for casting a simple corrected road wheel. While I was visiting the 2003 Chicago Hobby Expo last month, I stopped by the A2Z booth to look at their hobby-oriented resin casting products. They demonstrated a two-part molding material that kneads together like putty in a 1:1 proportion and cures quickly. The result is a mold that will take the finest details and reproduce them indefinitely. They showed me one mold they created earlier in the day that they pressed over a simple cameo (jewelry) and were able to re-create the finest details from the surface of the original. This material is perfect for working with the smaller jobs, yet will also create two-part molds to cast both sides of a given subject. A2Z also produces a line of two-part resins to work with their molds and the results I saw of both mold and resin were quite impressive. This casting line now has a job on my workbench! You can see more about the A2Z line of casting products on their website (www.themoldmakersstore.com). My sincere thanks to A2Z for this review sample and we'll give this a go on one of the upcoming projects! | |
