Andrea Color WWII Paint Set

By Michael Benolkin

If you're as figure-talented as I am, you've probably acquired a few figures over the years but dread the thought of tackling one. The few figures I've undertaken to date would make excellent zombies or something found in 'The Night of the Living Dead'. Andrea to the rescue.

Last year, Andrea released a beginner's figure set that included a knight figure. This time we have a WW2 German soldier to work with. This starter set is designed to give you virtually everything you'll need to get started with figure building. This includes ten colors from Andrea's great line of acrylics, one bottle of cyano to assemble the figure, sandpaper to remove any mold seams and/or flash from the figure parts, a paint brush, a paint mixing tray, figure base, and of course, the figure. The most important part of this set not yet mentioned is the step-by-step. full color instruction book that walks you through that mystic art of painting faces, clothing, and lighting/shadow effects to create a nice figure from the start and not something from a low-budget sci-fi movie.

The figure itself is cast in white metal and includes a number of options. There are two different heads, one with a plain helmet and one with the cloth camo cover. Parts are included to depict a machine gunner with his MG over one shoulder and an ammo can in the other hand, or to depict a soldier with his assault rifle at the ready in both hands. There is even a belt of ammo to sling around the neck of the machine gunner included.

It looks like it is time to take the leap of faith and try my own hand at these figures. I'll report back soon on how this first attempt went. This set is definitely a must-have for the modeler who wants to expand your talents and add some life in your dioramas/vignettes! You'll find this set at your favorite hobby shop or online from Squadron Mail Order.

My sincere thanks to Squadron/Signal Publications for this review sample!
