Loon Models New Releases | | Roll Models has released a new series of resin conversions, but what is unique about these is that they require no surgery of the basic kit! You only have to replace the indicated parts and you have done it! Let's take a look: 1/35 Clear Periscope Blocks LO35204 - Trumpeter STRV103B/C LO35207 - AFV M18 Hellcat LO35208 - Tamiya Marder III & IIIM These sets are direct replacements for the periscopes in their respective kits and feature a tinted blue to replicate the actual look of the real periscopes. 1/48 P-47C Conversion LO48026 Here is a very simple conversion for the Tamiya Razorback Thunderbolt - this backdates the aircraft to the P-47C configuration with your choice of open or closed cowl flaps. 1/48 P-51D-5 Mustang Conversion LO48202 Now here is an example of the outstanding molding that Loon will soon be known for. The resin fuselage halves are identical copies of the Tamiya kit parts, right down to the molded-in detailing inside the cockpit. The only difference is the missing filet on the tail which backdates the aircraft to a P-51D-5. Simply replace the kit fuselage with this set and follow the kit instructions. Take another look: The fuselage halves fit together nicely. One other added benefit of this set is that Loon made the rudder a separate piece, making it possible to position the rudder to your liking. Spitfire Mk.VIII Correction LO48209 This set replaces the fuselage in the Hasegawa kit with one that is compatible with all of the kit parts, but corrects the length and shape of the fuselage. As you've read here and in many other publications, Hasegawa made the Spitfire fuselage too short! Spitfire Mk.IX Fuselage Correction LO48208 Here is another correction for the Hasegawa short Spitfire fuselage problem. Another nice feature of this set is that it will backdate the late model Spitfire IX kit to the early model with replacement horizontal stabs and gun blisters. Here are some comparisons of the set with the original Hasegawa kit: Su-15 Flagon F/G Corrected Nose LO48201 Here's a replacement for the Trumpeter 1/48 Su-15TM or SU-15UM kits. The nose on the kit part (left) has no scribed-in details to show where the radome opens (it doesn't open at the kit seamline). The resin nose has this detail as well as being full of resin inside to provide additional ballast. The inner portion of the replacement radome is still hollow to accomodate the radar. You can purchase these and any of the Loon series directly from Roll Models. My sincere thanks to Roll Models for these review samples! | |
