Academy M151A2 Hard Top w/Trailer

By Michael Benolkin

Academy has re-released their M151, this time as an M151A2 version complete with hardtop and utility trailer. The kit is molded in medium green styrene and features beautiful detailing throughout. What’s different is the addition of the hardtop and side panels, which allowed the operators of the vehicle more protection from the winter elements. This vehicle configuration was commonly seen in Europe and South Korea.

Since previous releases of this kit have not exhibited any construction issues, it is safe to say that this one will be an easy build as well. This is an opportune time as VLS has released resin wheels and crew figures for the M151 as well. Note that this kit can be built without the top and includes a vehicle mounted machine gun.

Markings include two different vehicles stationed in Germany circa 1987-88. One includes an interesting tiger rendition leaping from the door.

Conclusion

Academy continues to turn out some of the nicest armor and AFV kits on the market. These M151s are a pleasant diversion from the variety of Jeeps and Kubelwagens that round out the light utility vehicle market. This kit is definitely recommended.

My sincere thanks to MRC for this review sample!
