This is the latest Walk Around book by Squadron Signal Publications. These books are always in their 11² x 8 1Ž2² soft-cover format. The cover arts (front and rear) are by Don Greer, as well as the color profile paintings inside.

The book contains 80 pages. It is packed with 108 black and white photos, 88 color photos, 10 line drawings (2 of these are 3 views), and 18 color profiles. I like the fact that the profiles are done with the nose of the P-38¹s produced TWICE. Once with the cowlings in the way and again with the cowlings out of the way. This is to allow us to see all of the nose-arts. The nose art ise also reproduced slightly larger and by itself, so we can see more of the detail in them.

The book has many photos of the various parts of P-38¹s anatomy. These are taken in museums and restoration workshops around the world. However, we are not always told where these shots were taken. The interior shots of the P-38 cockpits are especially valuable to us modelers, because usually a kit of the P-38 needs more work in that section.

The book covers all the major versions of the P-38, from the WWII veterans to the post war ones. The versions covered are: XP-38, YP-38, P-322 (Lightning MK-I), P-322 (Lightning MK-II) F-4A, P-38D, P-38E, P-38F, P-38G, P-38H, P-38J, P-38L, P-38LO, P-38M, F-4A, F-5B, F-5E, F-5G, and the P-38J Droopsnoot.

The P-38 has always been a favorite with aircraft modelers and its shape is easily recognized by most people. There have been a lot of different model kits of it over the years and this book will be invaluable when building any of them.

Highly recommended.

I bought my copy at the local shop. But it can be ordered direct from the Squadron Shop or found in most well stocked hobby shops.
