Academy 1/35 French Foreign Legion Set

by Michael Benolkin

Background

The French Foreign Legion was traditionally where folks who wanted to disappear from the 'world' and/or go where there was some 'action'. The Foreign Legion also provided the French Government with a convenient fighting force to police areas of political interest without spilling French blood in the process. While the excitement and romance of Foreign Legion service is all but lost on today's generations, it was the subject of literature and cinema years ago.

The Kit

Academy's release of these French Foreign Legion figures is an unusual and welcome change to the deluge of German WW2 figures being generated by many other companies. These figures represent relatively contemporary soldiers in different uniform styles.

The set comes with four complete figures and all of their related equipment. Molded in tan styrene, the only visible sink marks are only at the joints where they would be invisible after assembly.

A variety of headgear and weaponry is also provided from older carbines to contemporary automatic weapons.

Conclusion

This set is a nice change from the current range of Wehrmacht figures and still provides an interesting range of color and style possibilities with their uniforms. This set is highly recommended!

My sincere thanks to MRC for this review sample!
