Tally Ho! Latest Releases

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

Tally Ho! has been busy lately, with several new releases and a welcome reissue. Most are in 1/72, but they also have new releases in 1/48 and 1/32 as well, so there's something here for everyone.

First the reissue. This is the Lockheed Electra L-10A/B sheet. Five aircraft are included. You get a Czech civil bird from 1938, named 'Bata'; an L-10A of the RAF in the Far East, 1945-46; a restored L-10A finished in RCAF colors; the XR2O-1 of the U.S. Navy; and an XR3O-1 of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Next up is a sheet on the Siebel Si 204. This interesting aircraft wore many interesting schemes and markings, of which this sheet provides seven. You get a couple German examples, including a Siebel Si 204E in standard splinter scheme of RLM 70 andRLM 71 over RLM 65. This is coded red D. Next is a Si 204D-1, again in standard German camouflage and coded VE+PX. Next is a Czech Aero C-3D in khaki green over pale green and coded white D-73. The second Czech plane is an Aero C-3B in similar finish and coded PW-23. A Siebel Si 204D used for Ju 88 and He 219 night fighters aircraft operators training and equipped with Fu 6 218 V2R and Fu 6 217R radars is next, as seen while it was tested by RAF after WW II. Original German camouflage of RLM 70 and RLM 71 was retained, with the undersides in grey black RLM 66. British markings and Air Min 4 on the fuselage. The final two are French examples, the first being an NC 701 Martinet I equipped with French Renault 12S engines. This airplane was painted in olive green on the uppers with the undersurface in natural metal. The last one is an NC 701 Martinet I belonging to 5.9 flight of French Navy, also equipped with French Renault 12S engines and three bladed Ratier propellers. This one is in overall natural metal.

Next is a pair of sheets designed for the MPM Wellington kit. This nice model screams out for some great decals, and these two sheets provide. Part I provides a trio of Wellingtons, the first being a Mk. IC, R1598, coded KX-C and named 'Cecilka'. This plane served with the 311th Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron in the RAF during February 1942 and has 51 mission marks on the nose. The second one is a Wellington DWI Mk. III, L4242. This is a naval patrol version with the upper surfaces in extra dark sea gray and the lower surfaces in white. The final example is another Mk. IC, T2508, LF-O, of 37th Squadron, RAF, in Egypt in 1941.

Part II also has two Mk. ICs and one GR Mk. VIII. The Mk. ICs are R1516, KX-U of the 311th Czechoslovak Squadron, RAF. The second Mk. IC is L7842, KX-T, formerly of the 311th Czechoslovak Squadron but now in Luftwaffe markings, complete with yellow undersides. The GR Mk. VIII was from the 221st Squadron, Special Duties Flight, based in Malta in 1941. It's finished in slate gray and extra dark sea gray over black.

Finally, Tally Ho! has come to the rescue for all of you who want to detail up your MiG-21 kits. A sheet in 1/48 and one in 1/32 provide stenciling for the MiG-21, and be ready for a long time in putting these on. They're presented in red, blue and black, covering all the different types used on Czech MiGs, and likely those flown by other countries as well. There are 112 different stencils provided here, with 453 total individual decals. Good luck, and visit your optometrist....

All of these sheets are well printed with good saturation and excellent register. They should go down with no problem, and their thinness is commendable. Our thanks to Tally Ho! for the review samples.
