Decales de Guido 1/144 Crossair MD-80 "McPlane"

By Tim Bradley

Tired of the same old white "billboard" schemes?…need some color in your Olive drab life? Well, Tenax breath….does Cousin Guido has something for your Minicraft MD-80 kit!

Decales de Guido, the decal company from south of the border (which border I'm not really sure of) has brought out another great scheme for the modeler who would like to a little color to their ramp. I'm generally not a fan of advertising on aircraft, but this is the exception, because of its clean design. The entire airframe is painted bright red, with only the leading edges of the engine inlet/exhaust, wings and horizontal stabilizers being polished.

This sheet ALPS printed sheet has a double printing of white so there isn't any bleed through. I started by decaling with the windscreen and main door. This provided me with a reference line to work from. The large McDonald's is aligned on the first vertical panel line and the floor seam. The third window from the door aligns in the vee of the M. The sheet includes all the white markings ( hard to scan in the photo) windows/windshield, doors and misc. panels. One thing that is missing is the stabilizer scuff plate, as this really shows up on a red plane.

As you can see from my photo it makes into a real eye catcher. I think this would be a great change of pace for the military aircraft modeler who's looking for some color without all the usual complicated colored areas of the conventional airliner.

Thanks to Decales de Guido for the sample. These are available from Airline Hobby Supply, and Colpars and others.
