Tristar 1/35 German Panzer Grenadiers

By Ray Mehlberger

Last month I reviewed DML Dragon's new kit of 1/35th scale Panzer Rider figures. This new kit, by Tristar, is very similar. The box art is almost a clone of DML's!! It too shows the German soldiers riding on the rear engine deck of a Panther tank, as Volstad's DML kit box art did. The figure poses are quite different however.

The kit comes in an end-opening type box. The rear of the box is the painting and assembly instructions.

What's in the box?:

The kit contains one each of a large, medium, and small sized parts tree molded in light gray styrene. Each tree is in its own cello bag and these bags are further put into a final large bag.

The largest parts tree holds parts for the four German soldiers. They are divided into separate legs, torsos, arms, and heads. Also, on this tree, there are four bread bags, three canteens, three folded shovels in carrying cases, one soft peaked hat, one bayonet in scabbard, and numerous ammo pouches. (50 parts)

The medium sized parts tree holds four gas mask canisters, four steel helmets, one Luger pistol, four spare MG barrels, one pair of binoculars, four mess kits, and three Kar98 rifles. (21 parts)

The small parts tree holds two MP43 assault rifles and two Gewerhr 43 rifles.

Two of the figures are posed standing, one is sitting, and the last one is kneeling. All figures are wearing camouflaged uniforms with hoods. One of them is wearing his jacket over top of a long great coat.

These figures will go very well combined with DML's similar set in a diorama and are very well detailed and molded.

Except for the price...which is a little on the high side, compared to DML's price for their similar set, I highly recommend this set.

I bought this kit at my local hobby shop.
