In the June issue of Internet Modeler, we began this series with a look at the paints - acrylic & enamel - that are available pre-mixed and on-the-shelf for your USN WW2 projects. Folks who've been using the great line of Humbrol enamels for the majority of their modeling careers are accustomed to the chemist-like skills required to mix Flight Deck Stain 21 together from a variety of tins. Unlike these folks, I prefer to grab a container that says Flight Deck Stain 21 knowing that it will be pre-mixed AND match the previous container that I just shot through the airbrush.
To begin this series of color resource comparisons, I enlisted the aid of my favorite database and gathered together all available data. As I started pulling together the materials for Part 2, I realized that I had a minor bug in the query used to create the color table for Part 1 and a number of colors and their FS 595 equivalents were suppressed. In addition, I also discovered that I had neglected to use the Naval Color Series from Testors Model Master in my table. I hate when that happens...
So for this month, we're providing an updated table of USN WW2 Colors for your reference, especially with all of the great Trumpeter and Tamiya 1/350 WW2 USN vessels that are coming to a workbench near you!
