Armo 1/72 Zimmerit Hulls for a Panther G & a Jagdpanzer IV L/48 | | Overview Replicating the zimmerit paste that was applied to German tanks during World War Two has always been a bit of a challenge, with just about everyone having their own method (each one better than the others, of course). It was not long before someone decided to try and market their best zimmerit examples, and I have seen sheets of zimmerit sold separately and even photoetch zimmerit. The latest concept from the folks at Jadar goes a step further by providing one-piece hulls and turrets with zimmerit applied. The Sets Both conversion sets came with nothing but resin in the box, but since these are direct replacements for kit parts there really is no need for instructions. The Panther G set (72529) is designed for the Revell 1/72 Panther kit and includes a one-piece hull, a one-piece turret, and separate parts for the mantle, side skirts, and other small detail bits, including a nice resin machine gun. The breakdown for the Sd.Kfz. 162/1 Jagdpanzer IV L/48 (72530) is similar to the Panther G conversion. Designed for the Hasegawa kit, this set also comes with a one-piece hull. There is no turret on this tank, but parts are included for the gun mantle as well as the side skirts. Both examples are well-cast and do an excellent job of capturing the zimmerit texture. A quick check with the Hasegawa kit parts shows that there will be no problem mating the plastic parts with the resin conversion. My Revell Panther was packed, but I am sure that it is similarly engineered to match the kit parts. Conclusion These two conversions are a quick and easy way to do a zimmerit finish on a tank. Combined with one of the Armo aluminum barrels and you will have a very nice looking model when you are done. And best of all, you have an entire kit hull and turret (and barrel, if you use the Armo barrel on the zimmerit ones) to use as diorama fodder. | |
