Warship Perspectives: Camouflage Vol.4 Royal Navy: Supplemental by Alan Raven WR Press Inc. The introduction to this volume states " . . .. In this volume, which is the last to deal with camouflage of the Royal Navy in World War Two, an attempt has been made to cover some of the designs for which there was no room in the previous three. .." As with the previous three volumes, the bulk of the work is made up of b/w illustrations of the various ships with colour annotations alongside. Unlike the previous volumes there are no colour pages included beyond the covers. The book itself is in the familiar landscape format which allows for better presentation of the work, but a book that is hard to read while lying in bed. Besides the larger vessels which have been covered in previous volumes, amphibious assault vessels are shown here with stern details where applicable. Also of value are athwartship, and turret front and backs for ships seen in the earlier volumes. The modelmaker will benefit from a series of photos showing the bridge of a cruiser under construction as well as photos showing the various patterns on actual ships. To return to Alan's introduction, I'll let him sum up the entire series. " Even though the four volumes that make up this book contain over six hundred pieces of artwork there are still many vessels that have been left out ...... it is hoped that these volumes will help with an understanding of the story of Royal Navy camouflage in World War Two" My thanks to Keith Butterley of Warshipbooks.com for the review sample | |
