DRAW DECAL Alaska Airlines 737-700/900
1/144
scale, set 44-737-20
The Boeing Company rolled out the first 737-900 to launch customer Alaska
Airlines back on August 16, 2000 and was the first of 11 such airplanes
Alaska will receive. Alaska's first flight of the -900 was on May 15,
2001 with N305AS taking the honors at Renton, Washington. At 138 feet
2 inches, the 737-900 is the longest of the four Next-Generation 737 models.
This sheet is the first in a series of sets designed by Internet Modeler
Publisher, Chris Banyai-Riepl. This decal sheet started as one of his
beautiful aircraft profiles from the magazine. The first step in this
project is to modify the Revell 737-800 into either a shorter -700 or
a longer -900. An added bonus to this new sheet is an Adobe Acrobat file
created by Chris with scale drawings on just exactly where to cut the
Revell 737-800 into a -600, -700 or a -900. DRAW Decal's site has this
file.
This
ALPS printed sheet includes an extra length of side stripes just incase
your -900 turns out to be slightly longer than it should be. The Eskimo
face logo looks just perfect as does the "lipstick" style Alaska
lettering. Two sets of complete registrations, N303AS (-900) and N614AS
(-700) are made up for you along with extra numbers to do any aircraft
in the Alaska fleet. My only gripe on this decal, is the spacing of these
numbers are so crammed together, it is very difficult to isolate the smaller
ones from the adjacent number. The sheet supplies you with all windows,
frames and doors, but doesn't include a cockpit windscreen decal - I believe
for lack of available space.
There are no instructions for decal placement with the color profile
included, so I called and talked to Mr. Banyai-Riepl on where the very
small 303-900 decal went. He said Alaska includes the dash number with
the "N" on the nose gear door to help the rampers. Alaska is
running -200, -400, -700 and -900 737's. For most advanced modelers,
they will find this type of info on Airliners.net.
This is another outstanding example of an ALPS printed decal which can
be purchased directly from DRAW Decal
or your favorite airline hobby supply store. They have some of the best
decals on the market today, and they are always in stock!
