Color photos from the Second World War have been around for some time, but recently they have started showing up in force.  For the most part, though, they have been restricted to US and British aircraft, with a small spattering of other countries tossed in, often times when US or British crews visited those places.  This book opens up the world of Finland during the Second World War, presenting many of their aircraft in color photographs never before seen.    What is really astounding about this book isn't the presence of color photos but rather the quality of those photos.  Many are amazingly sharp and show excellent color, unlike many other photos from the far north.

In addition to wartime Finnish aircraft there are also several photos of German aircraft as well as pictures of captured Russian aircraft.  Post-war aircraft are also included, showing Bf 109s as well as trainers.  The book is mainly written in Finnish, although the photo captions are also presented in English.  There is also a small English text section at the very end of the book outlining the basic conflicts fought by the Finns in the 1940s.

This is a very welcome addition to any World War II library, especially for those interested in the lesser-known fighters of the war.  Highly recommended.
