Special Museum Line No. 23 By Frantisek Koran and Jan Mostek Wings & Wheels Publications, 2002 ISBN 80-86416-19-4 60 Pages, Softbound
The Museum Line series by Wings & Wheels Publications is an excellent collection of reference books and it keeps growing every year. This latest title covers the Studebaker US6 truck. While not as common as the Dodge or GMC vehicles during the Second World War, it nevertheless saw extensive use, both as a transport and as an offensive weapon with the addition of the BM-13 ‘Stalin’s Organ’. This book showcases three different vehicles found in different museums and does the usual WWP coverage, leaving no corner unseen.
Starting with the US6 found in the Military Historical Museum on Demarcation Line at Rokycany, this truck has a canvas cover over the bed and is painted in US markings. In addition to the vehicle there is also photo coverage of a trailer often pulled by the US6. The second vehicle depicted is the US6 Truck Tractor found in the General G. C. Marshall Ground Transportation Museum. While there are some photos of the tractor trailer, the majority show just the US6 vehicle. The final example is the US6 with the BM-13 found at the Army Technical Museum at Lesany. There are plenty of photos of this one, with the majority focusing on the BM-13 assembly.
This book is definitely worth getting if you want to detail any Studebaker US6 kit, or even just for the BM-13 reference, as that was carried by many vehicles throughout the war. Whatever your interests are, this is a well-done book with clear photos and excellent captions.
