This transkit is to compliment Revell's Corvette CR-5 kit #85-2354. It is Scale Design's Transkit #SDT13. This transkit will allow the builder to use the Revell base kit to accurately build the CR-5 as it ran at Sebring 12 Hrs '99, Sebring 12 Hrs. '01, Daytona 24 Hrs. '99, Daytona 24 Hrs. 00 and Daytona 24 Hrs. '01 and the Texas American LeMans series '00.
The Trans Kit
The transkit contains a sheet of photo-etch, a set of white metal wheels, and a set of white metal brake disk/hub/caliper assemblies. Also included are two decal sheets for the various events mentioned above. One sheet of decals is for the silver and black Goodwrench car that ran in 1999 and the other sheet contains markings for the yellow #3 car that ran at Daytona. There is an instruction sheet showing placement of the photo etch. There are also two colored drawings depicting the colors and decal placement for the various races mentioned above.
Conclusions
This transkit is one of two offered by Scale Designs for the Revell CR-5 kit. It is a welcome addition, as hardcore modelers want an exact scale replica of the car as raced that is not really offered with the Revell version. The photo etch adds a level of detail and the wheels and brake disk assemblies add accuracy and detail. The decal quality surpasses that supplied in the Revell kit. The CR-5 ran at many events and each differed slightly in its sponsor markings and such. Scale Design is well known for the quality of their transkits and this one is no disappointment.
