Internet Modeler's Best Green Aircraft
Seattle Spring Show 2002

By Chris Banyai-Riepl

The month of March marks many things, but in the Seattle area it also means that it's time for the Spring Show and this year marked a new location for the show. Moving across the lake this year, the show was held in Bellevue at a well-lit and large facility where the tables quickly filled up with some truly outstanding models. No category was empty and a difficult time was had by the judges, I'm sure. For more information on this year's Spring Show, check out the IPMS Seattle web site. They should have a show report and photos soon.

Two of the Internet Modeler staff were in attendance, namely myself and Bob Pearson. Or so we thought. About halfway through the morning I heard someone mention Internet Modeler across the vendor room from us. Walked over and discovered that our very own Chris Bucholtz had driven up for the show with no warning! I don't know why, but I always imagine 1/72 modelers to be shorter than they actually are....

The big challenge this year was judging the Internet Modeler trophy. Started last year with the Best Blue Aircraft award, this year the color changed to green. Not a good choice for limiting the entries, as green tends to be a rather popular camouflage color. This resulted in many great choices and it took a couple hours to narrow it down to just one. After much deliberation the decision was made:

Best Green Aircraft
Seattle Spring Show 2002

1/72 OV-10A by Warwick Wright

..

.

This obviously was a well-done model as it also won best in its class. It's obvious that Warwick put lots of effort into this model, not the least of which was painting it green. Well done!

If you're thinking that you have a great green airplane for next year's trophy, better put it away. Next year will be Best Red Aircraft, so start digging through your references now in search of that elusive red plane....
