Cobra Company has released a new detail set (#35002) that nicely enhances the MRC/Academy 1/35 UH-60L Blackhawk kit. For the mostpart, the MRC kit is very nicely detailed thoughout the kit, however, the cockpit is not as detailed as one might want in this scale.

The Cobra Company set includes a new instrument panel, center console and overhead console. A little careful painting and drybrushing will make these details stand out. Also included in the cockpit are a new pair of pilots' seats (and supporing parts), a new pair of cyclics, and even a pair of first aid kits that are mounted on the rear of the pilots' seats.

Externally, the set provides replacements for the kit's chaff/flare launchers and the IR jammer.

One of the best features of this set are the cockpit doors. If you read the review of the Blackhawk kit in last month's Internet Modeler, we saw that the cockpit doors were molded for easy removal to display the aircraft witht the doors open. The kit doors lack any detail on the inside to really want to open the doors. Not so with Cobra's doors! The doors look accurate down to the latches and map pockets.

Conclusion

This is a very nice enhancement to the MRC kit and will definitely make some prize-winning UH-60s at upcoming IPMS contests. Look for a similar set to be available from Cobra Company when the MRC/Academy MH-60G Pave Hawk is released.
