MRC Report

By Michael Benolkin

MRC has been producing a terrific line of 1/35 helicopters, including the OH-58D, H-13, UH-1C, AH-1T and AH-1W. However, the one kit that got a lot of excitement was the announcement of the 1/35 Blackhawks. I am happy to report that the waiting is almost over.

On display at the show were two of the UH-60L Blackhawk models, along with a set of parts trees from the test shot. One of the two models displayed the wing sponsons with external tanks, while the other was built as a 'clean' aircraft. The kit also features an open engine bay with all of the detail, and a complete interior with even the sling seats for the rear compartment. These Blackhawks appear to be every bit as detailed as the Kiowa series.

The Blackhawks will start appearing on store shelves after the holidays, if their current schedule stays on track. Given the appearance of the UH-60L at the show, I presume that this kit will precede the HH-60G Pave Hawk that was previously announced as the first release.

In addition to the Blackhawks, MRC is also producing a series of kits and details in 1/24 for the car modeler. These are the service stations that were common in the 1970s. Many of the detail accessories would also look great in a race car/NASCAR vignette as well. Check 'em out!
