Yellow-Wings Decals 1/48 Seversky P-35, 1937-1941
By Mike Whye
Yellow-Wings Decals has became well known among modelers for creating great sets of decals for U.S. military aircraft from the early 1930s to the early part of World War II. Each set of decals from Yellow-Wings contains four-color and black-line drawings and placement instructions. All decals are printed by Microscale.
Set 48-051 depicts three complete Seversky P-35s of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
One small group of decals represents an olive drab over neutral gray P-35 flown by the 24th or 1st Pursuit Group in the Philippines in November 1941. These include four national roundels with red centers for the fuselage and one on each wing, black wing walks, black U.S. Army, and black and yellow letters and numerals.
Another P-35, in overall natural metal finish except for a red ring at the forward part of the engine cowling, was flown by the 94th Pursuit Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group at Selfridge Field in 1937. Its decals include black wing walks, four national roundels for the upper and lower wings, black letters and numerals, red fuselage bands and a black U.S. Army. Unit badges show a Native American wearing a war bonnet with eagle feathers.
The third P-35, also in overall natural metal finish with a white cowl wing, flew with the 17th Pursuit Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group at Selfridge in 1937. Decals for this aircraft include four national roundels for the upper and lower wings, black letters, wing walks, numerals, U.S. Army and fuselage bands and black and white squadron badges of an eagle superimposed over a triangle.
Our thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for the review decals.
