S.B.S. Model 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I in Finnish Service
By Matt Bittner
Since Airfix has released new-tool 1/72 Hawker Hurricanes there has been more interest in the modeling community toward that aircraft. I've read it builds up into a first-rate model where one would want to build more than one aircraft. If the box-markings aren't to your liking then S.B.S. Model has you covered, especially if you prefer Finnish aircraft. This release contains four aircraft:
- HC452 (metal wing) of LeLv 32 based at Nurmoila in summer 1942. Standard fighter camouflage of Dark Green and Dark Earth on top and Black/White/Aluminum on bottom. Kill makrings of 2Lt Esko Ruotsila only on port side.
- HC-452 (metal wing) of 2/LeLv 26 based at Kilpasilta in summer 1943. Warpaint of Black and Olive Green on top and light Blue-Grey (RLM 65) on bottom. Victory bars retained on the port fin.
- HC456 (fabric wing) of 1/LLv 30 based at Hollola in summer 1941. Standard British fighter camouflage of Dark Green and Dark Earth top and Black/White/Aluminum on bottom. Capt Heikki Kalaja's personal emblem under canopy.
- HC-451 (fabric wing) of LLv 32 based at Suulajärvi in autumn 1941. Warpaint of Black and Olive Green on top and aluminum dope on bottom.
Decals are really nicely printed and appear to be in register. If you have any 1/72 Hurricane kit (especially the new Airfix one) and are looking for Finnish markings for it, then look no further then this sheet from S.B.S. Model.
I definitely thank S.B.S. Model for the decals to review.
