S.B.S. Model 1/72 Brewster Model 239 in Finnish Service
By Matt Bittner
It appears to me that S.B.S. Model definitely has the Finnish modeler at heart. Not only have they released two sets of decals for the I-153 but also have decals for the Brewster Buffalo, specifically the Model 239. These decals, excellently printed and appear to be in register, are for the following four Model 239s:
- BW-367 of 2/LeLv 24 based at Vesivehmaa in spring 1941. Overall aluminum dope finish. Black rudder with white 7. Black Spinner. Inscription 'Tre Bröder' referring to the Klingspor brothers who donated the funds for purchasing this aircraft
- BW-377 of 4/LeLv 24 based at Suuläjarvi in autumn 1942. Standard Finnish Warpaint of Olive Green and Black with DN-colour (RLM 65) underside. Kill markings of SSgt Tapio Järvi on both sides of fin.
- BW-368 of 3/LeLv 24 based at Kontupohja in winter 1942. Standard Finnish Warpaint of Olive Green and Black with white winter wash and aluminum dope underside. Kill markings of SSgt Nils Katajainen on both sides of fin.
- BW-393 of 1/LeLv 24 based at Suulajärvi in spring 1943. Standard Finnish Warpaint of Olive Green and Black with aluminum dope underside. Kill markings of 1Lt Hans Wind on both sides of fin.
The instructions do not state which kit this is for so I suspect the decals will work equally well on either the Hasegawa or Special Hobby kit.
My thanks to S.B.S. Model for sending the review sample.
