Print Scale 1/72 MiG-15 Decals
By Matt Bittner
When it was first announced that Eduard would be setting their sights on the MiG-15, specifically in 1/72, the modeling world rejoiced. While it took them a while to work out all the bugs, the final MiG-15 release from Eduard is one the 1/72 population can build and not worry about too many – if any – problems. It's a great kit, one that should be built multiple times.
It's because of that there have been – and will be – plenty of aftermarket decals for the kit. This release provides markings for the following aircraft (unless noted, all aircraft are overall "silver"):
- MiG-15 ser. 0315395, flown by Capt Pavlov, flight commander on 2nd Aviation Squadron, 29th Guard Fighter Regiment, Dachang air base, Summer 1950 (has a red/white striped rudder)
- North Korean Air Force MiG-15 ser. 111025 flown by Lt Gogolev, 176 Guard Fighter Regiment, 324 Fighter Division, Andun air base, April 1951 (also has a red nose)
- MiG-15, Moscow district of the air defnse, aerobatic team "Red Falcons", 1954 (red uppersurfaces)
- MiG-15bis, Egyption Air Foce, The Sinai Peninsula, October 1956
- MiG-15bis, Air Force Republic of Cuba
- MiG-15bis, Czechoslovakia, 1955
- MiG-15bis, ser. 134044, "Korean" model with enlarged 0.8 sq.m speedbrakes flown by Maj Panov, 133 Fighter Regiment, Mudken-West, May 1953 (Brown/Light Green/Sand camouflage)
- MiG-15bis, Lieutenant Dmitry Samoilov from the 523rd IAP, 303rd IBP, Myaogou airfiled, Summer and Autumn of 1951 (red nose and red fin-top)
- MiG-15bis seized by the U.S. Air Force in Korea, 21 Sep 1953; Korean defector Kum-Sok's aircraft
Decals are nicely printed and appear to be in register. While mostly the MiG-15 was finished overall in silver, it's the markings that will provide interest. With the red on some subjects and the other-than-Soviet markings, there is plenty on this sheet to add interest to the MiG-15 kit. In addition full stenciling is provided.
A big "thank you" to Print Scale for sending this sheet for review.
