Print Scale 1/72 Albatros D.III Decals
By Matt Bittner
Out-of-the-box, the Roden 1/72 Oeffag Albatros D.III 253-series aircraft comes with some nice schemes. However, what it doesn't come with is the sworl camouflage. This actually makes sense, though, because not all of the 253-series was covered with the sworl, so it would be limited to only a few, later aircraft.
The decals are nicely printed and appear to be in register. I compared the colors of the sworl decals with the color picture in the JaPo book, and the decals are near color-duplicates. There are two machines supplied in this set:
- Albatros D.lll (Oef) 253.218 from the 7th Escadra Myslyvska (Fighting Sguadron), assigned to Kpt. Merlam Cooper, Kiev. May 1920: this aircraft had an overall green fuselage and red nose along with uncovered wheels
- Albatros D.lll (Oef) 253.64, flown by Kpt. Geza Keisz, August 1918: finished with a natural-wood fuselage, white nose and red and white (in halves) wheel covers (which must be painted, as there are no decals for those)
The sworl decals are for only one machine, so if you want to build the other, you'll need to source your own sworl.
All in all these are excellent decals and will provide great options to finish your Roden 1/72 Oeffag Albatros D.III.
Lots of thanks to Print Scale for sending these to review. Note they also have a Facebook presence, as well.
