Print Scale 1/48 American F-86 Sabre Part 2
By Scott Hackney
American F-86 Sabre Part 2 is a new decal sheet from Print Scale. Print Scale is a decal manufacturer from Russia. The sheet is 5X7 depicting four Korean War F-86s. There is one set of stars and bars and no additional stencils. The decals are well printed and detail is very crisp. I can see no color alignment issues. The decals are very flat which might present some sharp contrasts when applied on a natural metal Sabre requiring the model to be over sprayed with clear. Most of the decals are straight forward and should fit well. I have my doubts that the nose strips on scheme 2 will wrap around the fuselage as depicted in the instructions.
The four schemes are all colorful aircraft and will make interesting attractive models. Two of the jets are F-86F-30s and both the Hasegawa and Academy kits can be used for these schemes. The other two options are F-86E-10s that have the earlier slatted wing and to my knowledge are not available in kit form. During the heyday when the Hasegawa F-86 was hot and new there were two conversion sets to backdate the F-86Fs to F-86Es. The Cutting Edge set is gone and I have not seen the other in a long time. So if you are one of those modelers looking for an accurate build, the current available kits will support half the schemes on the sheet. If you really like of the schemes and difference between a slatted wing F-86E-10 and a 6-3 wing F-86F-30 is not a show stopper – enjoy! After all modeling is a hobby that's supposed to fun and it's your model.
Thanks to Print Scale for the review sample.
