Mark I 1/144 MiG-19 Detailing Set
By Matt Bittner
When I built my Shenyang FT-6 (basically a MiG-19 two-seater, although Mikoyan Gurevich never made a two-seat MiG-19) a few months ago I lamented the fact the wing fences molded in-situ on the kit weren't tall enough. When the Shenyang J-6C arrived a couple of months ago, I thought the same thing: the wing fences aren't correct as they sit too low.
Thankfully Mark I has come to their own rescue. They have released this detailing set to complement their MiG-19 and all derivatives (Shenyang J-6/F-6, J-6A, J-6B and J-6C/F-6C, plus the JJ-6/FT-6 for some of the set). Not only does it contain new, properly sized wing fences but also a whole lot of other items to super-detail this range of Mark I kits.
There is a new instrument panel, seat handle, shoulder harnesses and seat belts for the cockpit, and an antenna for the spine (which I did add to my FT-6), and angle-of-attack indicator for the front of the fuselage and a pitot tube for the wing. The photoetch set also contains fan blades for the exhausts, replacement landing gear doors and speed brakes both for the sides, and belly of the aircraft (although the kit doesn't have any of the speed brake aperatures opened on the kit). Also included are replacement fins for the kit's missiles. Finally the set comes with a resin nose probe that unfortunately was a little bent in my set.
So, if like me, you've found you don't like the size of the wing fences on the Attack/Mark I MiG-19 kit and derivatives, then you'll definitely want to pick up this set. Just consider all the other added items bonuses.
My thanks to Kits-Shop for sending the detail set for review.
