JBr Decals 1/144 Spitfire in Czechoslovak Service
By Matt Bittner
The 1/144 modeling world knew they had a gem on their hand when Eduard released the Spitfire Mk.IX, both as the 'c' and 'e' wing. There has been numerous aftermarket releases for these kits (not only other JBr Decals but also photoetch by both Eduard and Brengun, plus RetrokiT is working on a resin cockpit) so there is definitely a market for a 1/144 Spitfire. Now thanks to JBr Decals, we have even more options to finish this gem-of-a-kit in.
This decal release is specifically for Czechoslovak Spitfires that helped form their fledgeling air force. There are six machines covered by this sheet:
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe SL628 "HL" W/C Jaroslav Hlaďo, CBE, DSO, DFC
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe TE527 "HL" Maj. Jaroslav Hlaďo, 2nd Air Division - České Budějovice
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe TE516 "NN-R"
- No. 310 Squadron
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe MJ572 "IV-7" 3rd Air Division, 1st Squadron of the Air Regiment 7 - Brno-Slatina
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe TE524 "JT-5" 2nd Air Division, 1st Squadron of the Air Regiment 4 - České Budějovice
- Spitfire LF.Mk.IXc MH750 "A-717" Military Air Academy
Decals are to a high standard and appear to be in register. The instructions are also excellent, giving not only text on each aircraft (including detailed descriptions) but also a general history on the use of the Spitfire in the Czech Air Force.
Couple this sheet with the other Spitfire releases from JBr, and you'll be building 1/144 Spitfire for quite some time. It's great to see the number of decals coming from JBr Decals. I humbly say "Thank You" to JBr Decals for allowing me to review this set.
