Eduard 1/72 SPACE MiG-21PFM set
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
Eduard has had a propensity for creating new aftermarket details, and their latest experiment is their new SPACE set. This combines their regular pre-painted photoetch with a new three dimensional decal sheet that provides an interesting effect. Here's a look at this new concept in their set for the MiG-21PFM.
The Details
This set is designed for the Eduard MiG-21PFM, so you can be assured it will fit beautifully. Starting with the new SPACE bits, these make up all the instrument panel & side console details. The set provides two options: one in the classic Soviet-era blue-green color and another in dark gray. So you will be able to use this set for whatever interior you need to replicate. The instructions direct you to soak these in warm water for a few seconds, but also indicate that leaving them in the water too long could cause them to swell and distort. The complete interior set of 3D decals consists of seven pieces, and there are a few separate photoetch parts for you to add later.
Speaking of photoetch parts, there is a nice small fret of those parts provided as well. These provide the usual suspects such as rudder pedals and seat belts, but you also get some control knobs and cockpit frame pieces. There are also a pair of rear view mirrors for the canopy. Other details cover the exterior of the MiG-21 and these include the small rod antennas found under the nose and on the fin tip and static whips for the wing and tailplane tips.
Conclusion
This is an interesting new idea from Eduard and on the sheet it looks quite promising. I am definitely looking forward to giving this set a go and see how the end result turns out. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
