Eduard 1/72 Revell F4U-4 Aftermarket
By Matt Bittner
It's a natural progression: a kit manufacturer releases a new kit and not long after there are aftermarket items for that kit. This is definitely the case for the Revell 1/72 F4U-4. Regardless of what you think of the kit, it is the only relatively out-of-the-box option for an F4U-4 Corsair so if you want to build that specific type of Corsair then you'll have to track down that kit. And while you're at it, pick up these two aftermarket sets from Eduard.
First is their usual masks, set #CX 453. Of course it contains masks for the clear canopy and windscreen but the set also comes with masks for the wheels. Spray the hub color, and when dry apply the masks then spray the tire color.
Next is a Zoom set primarily meant for the interior, set #SS560. This set comes with a two-piece instrument panel that requires the kit one to be sanded smooth prior to adding. There are also rudder pedals that are attached to the kit piece the instrument panel is also added to. The set comes with additions to the gun site as well as the upper, forward interior piece. It comes with a fold-up cockpit floor with consoles and additional console detail along with pieces to add the photoetch sidewalls. Not only does this set replace the kit seat with a fold/roll-up seat pan and bulkhead-back but it also supplies belts for that assembly. There isn't much for the exterior consisting of a handle and rear-view mirrors for the canopy and a cap for the external fuel tank.
Since the kit's cockpit needs some help the Zoom set is a great addition for this kit and I feel one is always better off using their masks as it saves time and energy. So in my opinion these two sets are necessary for the Revell 1/72 F4U-4.
Huge thanks to Eduard for the review samples.
