Eduard 1/72 Ju 88A Surface Panels (Self Adhesive)
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
The Revell 1/72 Junkers Ju 88A kit is a nice one, with excellent detailing both inside and outside. As good as any kit is, though, there is always room for some extra little improvement, and it is here that the aftermarket companies step up. It is tough to find good uses for aftermarket media such as photoetch in a kit like this that already has so much, but Eduard has stepped up with some interesting updates for this kit, like these surface panels.
The Kit
While many are familiar with Eduard's cockpit detail sets or seatbelt sets, one of their more recent trends has been in providing external surface panels for various aircraft. This set does that for the Revell Ju 88A, and also adds the self-adhesive feature found on many of their interior sets. The premise is simple: take advantage of the finer detailing possible through the etching process to create highly detailed panels that are then placed on the surface of the model. The finished detail is quite good, but the downside is that these will stand proud of the surface of the rest of the kit, which may not be entirely accurate. Still, it does give a bit of texture to an otherwise flat surface.
Conclusion
This is a very simple and straightforward update set for the Revell Ju 88A kit, and will take little time to apply thanks to the self-adhesive feature. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
