Eduard 1/72 Brassin Spitfire Mk. Vc Wheels for the Airfix Kit
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
Wheels have always been a tough part to deal with in kits. Either they're molded in halves, leaving the modeler to glue them together and hope they align well, or they're molded as one piece, leaving the inevitable mold seam down the middle. Luckily, the aftermarket world has recognized this problem and resin wheels are a common item. Eduard has taken this need and stepped it up with their usual Brassin attention to detail, though, and these wheels for the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc are no exception.
The Resin Bits
These wheels are direct replacements for the kit parts, so there should be no real challenge in using them. The detail is excellent, with both the hubs and the tires having far more sharp details than the kit parts. The tires have the Dunlop name imprinted on the side, while the hubs have the correct five-spoke hub and rear details. The tires are slightly bulged and flattened, and the instructions provide a clear diagram showing the proper orientation. In addition to the main wheels, this set also provides a new tailwheel assembly, which is likewise nicely detailed. The set also includes masks for the wheels, so you will be able to cleanly paint the hubs.
Conclusion
Eduard has produced another great Brassin set for the Airfix Spitfire Vc, and this coupled with the other Eduard sets will give you a very nicely detailed Spitfire without a lot of extra work. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
