Eduard 1/72 Airfix Vampire T.11 Photoetch
By Matt Bittner
The Vampire T.11 is another new-tool from Airfix in 1/72, another in their excellent new kits. While out-of-the-box the kit can stand the test of time, there is always room for improvement. This "full" photoetch set (#73-480) from Eduard consists of the following pieces to enhance the Airfix kit.
First off, the photoetch frets tackle the ejection seats. You add new belts, the ejection pull handle to the headrest and a couple of other smaller pieces. The next item that gets enhanced is the instrument panel. Not only the typical two-piece front, but also pieces to add to the back, since it's visible through the large, clear canopy. Once those are taken care of there are other small items to add to the sides of the cockpit along with various plates to add to the outside of each fuselage halve. Eduard provides parts to enhance the nose landing gear and gear area and doors along with items to enhance the main landing gear, doors and well areas. There are new antenna to add to the wings, parts to add to the inside of the canopy, more antenna and plates for the fuselage, along with a wiper for the front of the windscreen. There are also pieces to build-up the flap area (after performing a little bit of "plastic surgery") along with new, dropped flaps.
All in all this is an excellent set to enhance the Airfix Vampire. More than a typical Zoom, but just enough to add interest.
A definite "thank you" to Eduard for supplying the review set.
