Eduard 1/48 Macchi MC 202 Flaps
By Jacob Russell
I think that the Macchi MC 202 is one of the most elegant planes of World War Two. Hasegawa produced both 202 and 205 kits, and they are easy to find on eBay and, if you're lucky, your local hobby shop. This is one of Hasegawa's kits that commands a premium price wherever you find it...
Eduard produced a limited edition boxing of the Hasegawa plastic parts, with a set of Cartograph decals, along with their customary suite of Brassin and photo-etch enhancements. We're taking a look at the flap set here.
Eduard produced a set of Macchi flaps previously (item number 48 164) but it only included the movable sections. The new set includes the fixed, upper sections as well. This really improves the realism of this area. It consists of approximately 28 photo-etch pieces. You have to add a couple .3mm lengths of wire and this is explained in the easy to follow instructions.
Some of the parts are quite small and fiddly. You will need a magnifier (Optivisor, anyone?), photo-etch scissors and a good PE folding device to get the most from this very detailed set.
This is a great example of Eduard's expertise in producing complex photo-etched parts that add spectacular detail to your models.
I recommend this set to experienced modelers, and I would like to thank Eduard for the review sample.
