Eduard 1/48 Brassin Bf109G-6 Exhausts
By Chris Cowx
This is yet another of the many gorgeous sets that Brassin has produced to complement the new tool Eduard 1/48 Bf109G series of kits. The set consists of 4 resin pieces and 4 p/e pieces. As usual they are beautifully executed with detail from the engine block itself cast into the base of the exhaust stacks and the welding seams and open ends perfectly done.
The engineering is interesting as well. The kit gives you two choices. You have a one piece item that includes a boxed in section behind the stacks and the thin shields above and below the stacks, all molded as one piece. This has some compromises such as thicker shields and a lack of hollowed out stacks. The second kit choice is a separate set of stacks and p/e pieces to represent the shields. This is nicer and has the stacks molded with hollow ends, but still not perfect.
The Brassin set has a box to install inside the nose and separate stacks with weld seams and open ends that are put in from the outside. After installation the p/e shields are put in top and bottom. The Brassin set gives hollow ends, thin shields, weld seams, detail at the base and no see through effect. They give the best of both kit options, combined with better detail. Installation requires no surgery and is virtually drop fit. With a little bit of dry brushing to set off the extra detail they will give a subtle but worthwhile improvement to an already beautiful kit.
Highly recommended! I would like to thank Eduard for the review sample.
