Armory 1/48 AGM-130
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
The AGM-130 is a development of the highly successful GBU-15 and is essentially a rocket-boosted version of that guided bomb. The GBU-15 is a standard Mk 84 2000lb bomb with a guidance package added, and the AGM-130 variant adds GPS navigation and the rocket booster. The increased range, coupled with the improved accuracy, makes the AGM-130 a potent weapon. The AGM-130 can be carried by the F-15E and F-111, with the AGM-130LW (lightweight version) can be carried by the F-16C/D.
The Set
Armory's AGM-130 set provides a pair of weapons, cast beautifully in gray resin. The main body is one piece, with individual fins and a separate rocket body. Assembly is very simple, with the only real challenge being with alignment of all the fins. A simple jig here, though, will simplify that greatly. Be ready to do some research, though, when it comes to finishing these, as colors and markings are not laid out. Luckily, it's not too tough to find photos of AGM-130s online.
Conclusion
If you are looking for something a little different to hang on your Strike Eagle or F-111, this set offers a great option. My thanks to Armory for the review sample.
