Platz 1/72 MiG-15 UTI “Finnish Air Force”
By Matt Bittner
Eduard released the 1/72 UTI MiG-15 over a year ago and is now considered to be the "go-to" choice for the MiG-15 in 1/72. Platz has re-boxed the Eduard kit for the Japanese market and has made one huge improvement to the original boxing. Because it's just the Eduard kit re-boxed, I'll refer readers to my initial Eduard First Look for kit contents.
The improvement Platz includes are three nose weights already formed to the inside of the kit's fuselage. No longer do you have to guess about how much weight to add, Platz has done the hard work for you.
There are two major air force schemes that come with this kit, Finnish and Polish (which is known as the SBLim-1). Within these two air force schemes are six actual aircraft:
- Finnish MU-1
- Finnish MU-2
- Finnish MU-3
- Finnish MU-4
- Polish "Red 018" (this is the only one not in aluminum and is finished overall in white)
- Polish "Red 604"
Decals are produced by Rocketeer Decals and while they look good, I haven't had the opportunity yet to use them so am unaware on how they react.
One interesting aspect to this release is the box can be "built up" to hold the model. Not sure why, since the instructions are all in Japanese, but maybe it's to hold the model together while building. Or maybe it's a way to hold the model for transportation. It's an interesting touch, I'm just not sure "why".
My thanks to Platz for the review kit.
