Eduard 1/72 MiG-15bis Weekend
By Matt Bittner
The Eduard 1/72 MiG-15 has been covered in a previous article so I won't go into any detail on what's contained on the sprue here. For their Weekend Edition kits, Eduard usually just provides the plastic and decals for one option, this one a MiG-15bis, c/n 1315376, ex-64th IAK, Soviet Union, mid Fifties. Decals are to usual Eduard standards and appear to be in register.
Since the sprues are common between the MiG-15 and MiG-15bis you will have left over parts. Not just because of the differences between the types, but also the extras provided for the stores, if needed.
There is one extra piece provided, though, and that is an extra decal that contains not only "raised" seat belts (seriously, these are a bit more "3D" than "2D") but also a "bra". Yes, you read that right. I believe it was included in their Bunny Fighter release that Eduard provided a "bra" with that release. So, there's just a tad bit more extra than what usually is in a Weekend Edition box. What you do with that "extra" decal is entirely up to you because this smaller extra is not called for in the instructions at all. Sure, we all know where seat belts are to go, but the other...
Conclusion
Eduard's 1/72 MiG-15s are definitely the best rendition of the MiG-15 and now with the release of the Weekend Edition you'll be able to finish the kit without worrying about all the extra photoetch. However, if that's your desire you can always pick up Eduard's brass and resin to add much more than just the plastic provides. My thanks to Eduard for sending the review kit.
