Eduard 1/72 SPAD XIII "Early" Weekend Edition
By Matt Bittner
Introduction
Since there is a lot of information out on the SPAD XIII, I will only state that we reviewed the first "Early" release as a Dual Combo. The difference between the "Early" and other releases are the wing-tips - the "Early" being rounded.
The Kit
This time Eduard has released the "Early" version of their 1/72 SPAD XIII - kit #7411 - which contains no masks and no photoetch. You receive two sprue of SPAD XIII parts, one sprue of two windscreens (which is contained in all the SPAD XIII kits) and the decals for the single machine - Guynemer's machine from Spa.3, September 1917.
The plastic is typical Eduard - very well done with minimal problems. The decals are also typical Eduard - no registration problems and the colors are very well done.
I'll point you to the First Look on the original "Dual Combo Early" release for not only descriptions of the parts, but also links that will take you further into the awesome goodness that is Eduard's 1/72 SPAD XIIIs.
Conclusion
Not much to add to all the other reviews of the Eduard 1/72 SPAD XIIIs. It's an excellent kit that goes togther well and is one definitely worth tracking down. Couple the lack of photoetch and masks, and you could very well build a 1/72 SPAD XIII in a weekend.
My thanks to Eduard for the review kit.
