The Car
The Enzo Ferrari is one of the world’s premiere super cars. The
name Ferrari speaks for itself, having produced some of the most successful
cars in Formula 1 racing. In addition to the wins on the track, Ferrari
has a reputation of delivering performance and beauty rolled into a single
automobile. Imagine if you will, a company with a track record such as
this pooling its knowledge, efforts, and inspiration to create a machine
that encompasses all the company represents. The result is the Enzo Ferrari.
The Enzo Ferrari is a car developed by Ferrari as a tribute to its founder
and named accordingly. There were only 400 cars produced during between
2003 and 2004. Only your choice celebrities, high profile athletes, and
big business CEOs can afford this luxury automobile at a price tag close
to the $1 million dollar mark. Obviously the mystique of this car has
driven the price up since its production.
The performance of this car is phenomenal. The Enzo can reach 60 mph
in 3.14 seconds, 100 mph in 6.6 seconds and finish the quarter mile in
11.0 seconds at 130mph; all of this while reaching a top speed of 230
mph. The power plant that drives this performance is a naturally aspirated
V12 that produces 651 hp.
The Kit
For starters, the kit was a little pricey. This is normal for your typical
Tamiya kit. The good news is that you get what you pay for. Tamiya has
a reputation for being a quality model kit manufacturer, so at a price
of roughly $50 for the kit, expectations were high. I must say that these
expectations were exceeded upon opening this kit. Parts with incredible
detail, hardly any mold lines and no warping are standard in Tamiya kits.
With the Enzo kit, the windows are packaged separately in their own bubble
wrap for protection, patterned carbon fiber decals are included, and they
even went the extra mile to include double the amber directional parts
that measure less than 1mm. (Good thing because I lost the other two!)
The directions are very clear with a great paint guide. Assembly on
this kit was easy and fun. A lot of the parts seem to be a little over
the top, but it is well worth putting up with using the very tips of your
fingers when the kit is complete.
There is incredible engine detail on this kit as well as an amazing
cockpit setup.
Photo etched adhesive emblems are included with the kit and add an amazing
touch of detail which really helps this kit stand out. In addition to
the underside panel of the car, Tamiya includes a clear part so you can
display the underside of the engine. (I didn’t assemble it with
this option. The only difficulty I had with this kit would be the carbon
fiber decals, which were hard to place in some areas around the roof of
the car and front of the dashboard. Other than that, there were no fitment
problems to speak of as every single part fit exactly as it is supposed
to. There was brilliant engineering behind this kit.
Conclusion
Overall, this was simply the best kit I have ever assembled. The Tamiya
Enzo Ferrari challenged me to up my skill a little bit, but not so much
as to discourage myself. Before this kit, I had never done any carbon
fiber work; but now feel confident to try it on other projects. It looks
great in the display cabinet and I am proud to show this one off. It was
a fun kit and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks for reading.
