Afterburner Decals 1/48 Arctic Aggressors

Reviewed by Frank Anselmo

Afterburner Decals has just passed onto us images of a new decal package called "ARCTIC AGGRESSORS", sheet 48-034. This is also a little misleading: there are markings to complete 9 different jets from this in 1/48 scale, but there are also markings to complete 2 jets in 1/32 scale as well. This sheet has just arrived and is available for ordering and shipment at this moment. The decals themselves were printed by Cartograf, and are to the finest standards. There are 2 seperate sheets in this package: the first is a rather large sheet with all the main markings, while a second small sheet contains the wingwalk markings necessary for some of the aircraft. The decals themselves are sized for the 1/48 scale Tamiya F-16 kits, as well as the 1/32 scale Tamiya F-16 kits. The subtle differences in the stencils have been faithfully captured due to the jets having been painted at 3 different paint barns, plus some other markings anomalies that are present and only caught by being next to the jets personally. The markings in the package are as follows:

.....

F-16C Block 30 86-0314 354th Fighter Wing Commander 2008. This is in the new "Artic Scheme" of black, white, and gray. It can be modeled in both 1/48 and 1/32 scales.

F-16C Block 30 86-0290 18th Aggressor Squadron Commander 2008. This jet is also in the "Artic Scheme".

F-16C Block 30 87-0305 2008. This is a line jet in the "Artic Scheme".

.....

F-16D Block 30 87-0375 2008. This twin-seater is also a line jet in the "Artic Scheme". Since Tamiya does not have a "D" available at the moment, the KINETIC kit will work when it is released since it is based on the Tamiya kit.

F-16C Block 30 86-0301 2008. This is a line jet in the "Flogger Scheme" of green and tan. It can be modeled in both 1/48 and 1/32 scales.

F-16C Block 30 86-0310 2008 This is also a line jet in the "Flogger Scheme".

F-16C Block 30 86-0335 2008 354th OPERATIONS GROUP CMMANDER jet. This jet is in the "Flanker Scheme" of blues and gray.

.....

F-16C Block 30 86-0298 2008. This is a line jet in the "Flanker Scheme".

F-16C Block 30 86-0322 2008. This is also a line jet in the "Flanker Scheme".

This decal sheet is large and has tremendous value. From it there are enough stencils and markings to complete 4 different models in 1/48 scale, and 2 models in 1/32 scale, all of which are in these much anticipated markings and schemes.

This decal package can ordered at the present moment and is available for shipping from Afterburner Decals at their website.

My thanks to Scott Brown at Afterburner Decals for supplying these images of a great new decal sheet.
