Afterburner Decals 1/48 ANG Viper Wing Kings

Reviewed by Frank Anselmo

Afterburner Decals has recently sent us images of decal sheets that have just been released. This review is based solely on the images provided as the sheets themselves had just arrived at the time this review was written.

The first sheet is 48-030 and is called "AIR NATIONAL GUARD VIPER WING KINGS". This sheet was timed for release to coincide with the recently released Tamiya F-16C Blk 25/32 kit, and the decals themselves are designed to fit that kit. It features 12 different ANG F-16 Wing Kings from 11 different units. The sheet itself covers Block 25's thru 52's. Several of the jets on this sheet have spent time in Iraq "putting warheads on foreheads" recently. So in addition to really killer ANG schemes, you will also be able to hang warloads from them. Here is run down of the markings on this sheet.

F-16C 87-0301 Block 32 144th Fighter Wing, California ANG 2007 (Black Tail)

F-16C 84-1377 Block 25 122nd Fighter Wing, Indiana ANG 2005/August 2007 Balad AB, Iraq

F-16C 85-1476 Block 30 (GE/NSI) 113th Wing, District of Columbia ANG 2000

....

F-16D 85-1509 Block 30 (GE/NSI) 113th Wing, District of Columbia ANG 2005. Now if you are thinking that Tamiya has not released a 2-seat "D" kit, what kit are these decals sized for. Well, since the new KINETIC kit that is about to be released shortly is based on the Tamiya kit, these decals should fit that kit. They will not, however, fit the Hasegawa kit.

This is a large decal sheet, and there are enought stencils to complete at least 2 individual models from this sheet. A seperate Stencil Sheet is available from Afterburner Decals for the Tamiya F-16C kits.

The sheet itself and instructions come in a large sealed poly bag. The decals have been printed by Cartograf in Italy. This sheet can be ordered directly from the Afterburner Decals website at www.afterburnerdecals.com. The sheet itself is available for ordering and shipping at this moment.

My thanks to Scott Brown at Afterburner Decals for sending these images to us for review.
