Well Folks, along with the Starfighter
E-2C sheet reviewed earlier, came a very attractive sheet for the
EA-6B Prowler. Sheet #144-123 is titled 21st Century Prowlers Part 2.
This sheet covers 2 colorful CAG birds. The first is VAQ-141 of Air Wing
8 off the USS Enterprise in 2005. As you can see, this has the black eagle
splayed across the considerable tail of the EA-6B. On this sheet, Starfighter
also included the unique walkways used on the Prowler, as well as markings
for the ECM pods hung on the Prowlers.
The 2nd choice has a bit more color splashed with the CAG bird from
VAQ 135 of Air Wing 11 off the Nimitz in 2005. This bird also has a darker
"Hooded" color scheme, all documented by Starfighter with profiles
and FSN numbers, what more can we ask for?
Also a quick word about the DML Prowler. The most recent release (#4589)
is the one you want to go for. We'll review this in the future. But suffice
it to say, DML performed an update to this kit that is really Great. The
Canopies are thinned, a real cockpit tub is now included (vice a blob)
and the markings are extremely colorful from VAQ-140 "Patriots".
Needless to say, with the combination of DML's new kit and Starfighter's
decals in this scale, "Smurf-modelers" like myself are very
busy - and happily so. I can only hope Starfighter continues their product
line. Between the F-18 Legacy markings, and now the new "Rhino"
F-18 E & F , they are really coming on strong in 1/144th scale. Starfighter
decals can be seen and ordered via their site.
